BLIND AMBITION MANAGEMENT SIGNS CHARLIE MUSSELWHITE
Blind Boys of Alabama and Charles Musselwhite Nominated for Grammy Awards
ATLANTA, GA – Blind Ambition Management, Ltd. is proud to announce that it
has signed legendary bluesman Charlie Musselwhite as a management client.
An icon among harmonica players, Musselwhite has also been nominated for a
Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album for his 2004 Real World
Records release “Sanctuary.” In addition to managing Charlie Musselwhite,
Blind Ambition also manages the legendary 3-time Grammy-winning Gospel group
The Blind Boys of Alabama. The Blind Boys were nominated for two Grammy
Awards this year, one for “Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album” for
their collaboration with Ben Harper, “There Will Be A Light,” and one for
“Best Gospel Performance” for the title track from that release.
According to Charles Driebe, Founder and CEO of Blind Ambition, “Our
company is honored and proud to be selected to manage Charlie
Musselwhite. I am also ecstatic about the Grammy nominations for both
Charlie and the Blind Boys of Alabama.”
Some musicians become blues players by choice, some are simply born into it.
Harmonica master Charlie Musselwhite’s life story reads like a classic blues
legend, with roots in the blues heartland of Mississippi and Memphis
followed by a migration to Chicago, the birthplace of modern electric blues.
His recordings—two dozen solo albums for many labels spanning almost 40
years—have become classics, and his live shows continue to amaze fans around
the world. Like the greatest bluesmen before him, Musselwhite has added his
own signature to the music. Over the course of his career, he’s introduced
jazz chord stylings, Cuban rhythms and contemporary, singer-songwriter
lyrics into his vision of the blues. His most recent recording, Sanctuary
(Real World), was celebrated worldwide as a triumph, and features
contributions by Ben Harper and The Blind Boys of Alabama. Charlie has made
guest appearances on albums by John Lee Hooker, Tom Waits, John Hammond,
The Blind Boys of Alabama and many others. Charlie will be performing at
the Warren Haynes Christmas Jam as a special guest of Warren Haynes on Dec.
18. In January 2005, Charlie will tour with the Sanctuary Band featuring
Charlie Sexton, and on February 1, Alligator Records will release a
compilation of Charlie’s Alligator recordings entitled “Deluxe.”
